So this evening I ran over to Armthorpe for football training and on my way over a man ran past me at lightening speed. He stopped shortly after and when I passed him. (Very slowly) I politely shouted "good running!" He then shouted back it was his last speed session before London. I mentioned I was doing London too so he quickly caught me up and we then spent the next mile chatting about London and the race! I quickly found out this man was Carl Ryde! He is well known in the Yorkshire region, pretty much any race he enters he wins. I'm pretty sure he won the ferriby 10 this year in awful conditions!
We chatted about my injury and he reassured me and told me of the amazing crowd support and it was at this point he told me he was disappointed in his 2:27 time! He finished 14th! 14th!!!!!
He was a really nice person to chat to and as he turned off he shook my hand and wished me well for the race. I wished him well too. Not that he needs it!
It was a real confidence boost speaking to him. Someone who I'd class as an elite racer stopped and took the time to chat and give advice.
Bring on London!!
