My name is Max and I'm 29 years old from Doncaster, South Yorkshire. I've been running properly for about 4 years now. I run with Tickhill Running Club and Dave Tunes Team Blizard on Tuesday nights. I've had an eventful time running which has included a broken leg and starting again. I ran the London Marathon in 2014 and finished in 3:52. Due to a handful of reasons I didn't fulfil my potential at the marathon and luckily a marathon will be run on my 30th birthday. Need I say more! So on 15th May 2016 I will be running the Bexhill Marathon
A little background about me;
I have always been a very sporty person, mainly playing football on the hillies field in Wombwell with Koeman, Titch, Doggy, Adam, Dumplin and Eddie. I played for 2 football teams Hoyland Common Falcons and Mitchells and Darfield. Unfortunately I broke my leg in 3 places when I was 16 in a football match, then in the same season came back and broke my wrist in my first game back. So football took a back seat. By this point I was 18 and decided drinking was better than keeping fit!
Years went by and I started putting weight on then last January after a trip to Dublin I decided enough was enough (see picture in Gallery of my size...) and I decided I wanted to lose the weight. So I did! lots of support from Jenna helped me lose over 4 stone. In my school years I really enjoyed cross country running and did very well so I started plodding around the streets of Kirk Sandall, planning routes and doing 3-5 miles every other day, then I came up with an idea to enter a few running races. My first ever race was the Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield 2012, I finished in 53 mins 54 secs. And I loved it! so I thought it would be a good idea to enter either 1 running race or 1 cycle race a month (I later dropped cycling as I found running more enjoyable) and in my second ever race I entered the Cusworth 10km - and at the last water station I noticed that out of about 10 people only 1 person thanked the lovely old lady dishing out water. I saw on his vest he was from Tickhill Running Club so after the race I googled them and sent an email asking about joining. As it was October I was told I could come down and try it out and if I liked it I should probably wait until January as my membership would only cover 2 months but as I enjoyed the club so much I paid my membership that same night!
I really enjoy going to Tickhill Running club, its a great club and I've made some great friends. As I started getting quicker and after a visit to our club from Jenny Blizard I decided to have a lactate threshold test done (and also realised I was running myself into the ground!) after the test I started running with Dave Tune on a Tuesday night to help get fitter and improve my overall fitness. This has been confirmed because my best 10km time was 50.04 and just recently I completed my last 10km race in 42.11!!
And so we come to the present time. I was very lucky to be picked out of the hat by Christine at Tickhill Running Club to run in the London Marathon so here we go. 18 weeks to go.....
