Well I'm ready for tomorrow morning! I'm ready to get this recovery on the go! I've decided I'm going to take my garmin out with me when walking / taking the dog out etc as each day I seem to be able to go further. My first walk with George was equal to a 16 mile training run. My calfs and thighs were really sore but the more I've used my leg again the less it's hurt and the further I can go. I realise the need to not push too hard but equally if my body / leg allows I will do as much as I can. Inbetween my dog walks etc I will be doing my daily exercises given to me by the physio to help stimulate my leg (please see video) and I will be in the garage to start my German volume training. Matthew Lawton has given me the training plan to do this and I trust him 100% (due to the fact he looks like Arnie) so that will be happening every other day plus drinking lots of water. I think by updating this blog it will help motivate me to do this and keep on top of my fitness etc. last thing I want to do is end up as fat Max again! Also if/when Jenna and Mark get into the London marathon I can help jenna prepare and accompany her on runs! I feel bad because Jenna was smashing her runs but due to her having to look after me/the dog/the house. Running has taken the back seat. So hopefully I can repay the favour and help jenna fully prepare for the marathon!! I know it's been a while since I wrote on my blog but a few things have happened; • the pain in my knee / knees has finally gone. Had a few sessions at Blizard and I'm pain free! • Jenna and Mark find out in about 6 weeks whether they are in the London Marathon • I broke my leg playing football! First pre season game and only 29 seconds in i land funny and SNAP. I think that noise will live with me forever! So fast forward through surgery, metal plates, fracture clinic appts, physio and 8 weeks later we are here. I've got a leg brace on which is keeping my leg stable. I've been able to put weight on my leg for 2 weeks and fingers crossed when I'm back at the hospital in 2 weeks I'll be brace free, crutches free and ready to start rehabilitating !! I thought it would be fun to document my progress and return to running. I'm officially retiring from Sunday league football, I wasn't particularly good anyway but really enjoyed it, but I don't think I can risk another injury. This is my second leg break, to go with a broken wrist, hand, thumb and numerous toes! So once I'm given the green light from the hospital we are going to start going to the swimming pool to build my leg up and concentrate on my rehab. My goal is to run a marathon on my 30th birthday (15/05/2016) so I've got 18 months to achieve this! This is not how I expected the year to turn out but it's made me realise how much I miss exercise/keeping fit/ RUNNING I've converted the garage into a gym with weights and a bench but that is a slow burner at the min. Would much rather go for a 10 mile run! But I've got to keep fit and in shape so this week things get serious! So let's begin. |
